Chiba Prefecture(千葉県)

Overview

Chiba Prefecture, just east of Tokyo, is often seen as the capital’s quieter neighbor—but it has a charm and significance all its own. Only about 40 kilometers from central Tokyo, Chiba is home to Narita International Airport and the world-famous Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, making it a common first or last stop for international visitors.

Beyond its airport and theme parks, Chiba offers beautiful coastal towns, serene countryside, and traditional cultural experiences. The Boso Peninsula features sandy beaches, surfing spots, and scenic cliffside views, especially around Cape Nojima and Kamogawa. Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, near the airport, is over 1,000 years old and surrounded by quaint shopping streets.

Chiba enjoys a mild climate overall, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Spring and autumn are particularly pleasant, especially for visiting flower parks like Mother Farm or exploring seasonal events.

Food-wise, Chiba is known for peanuts, fresh seafood (especially clams and sardines), and nure-senbei—soft, soy-sauce flavored rice crackers. Travelers often describe Chiba as an underrated gem—ideal for those wanting a mix of relaxation, nature, and a taste of everyday Japan.
